Relay for Life – Stephanie Mitchell

This is a podcast taken the night of the lower Berkeley relay.  Stephanie's team (Hanahan Elementary) was at the campsite next to mine. Many of the teams on the field that night were from local schools, and the teachers who went to work very early on a Friday morning were staying up late on a Friday night/Saturday morning for a good cause. … [Read more...]

Relay for Life – James Lewis

Jimmy and I have attended the same church for several years.  He is a man who greatly loves his community, his family and God.  Last year he was unable to attend Relay, but he still helped the church team in any way he could.  I look forward to having Jimmy at the event this year. … [Read more...]

Relay for Life – Patti Lewis

This is my first year doing relay with Patti, but we've gone to church together for several years.  I've seen her joy while talking about her family.  I've shared meals with her.  I've seen her deal with her own medical issues and tragedy in her own life.  I am glad to have her on my Relay team this year, and I know the event will be better with her there. Thanks for doing the podcast, Patti. … [Read more...]

Why I Relay – Virginia Holly

After work Virginia came to help prepare for the Common Ground Dinner and a Dream program.  During the program she staffed the bake sale table, and she stayed after to help clean up.  While we were preparing for the event, I convinced her to record her reasons for Relay.  She kept her recording short and sweet, but her actions are the true testament to her words. … [Read more...]

Dinner and a Dream

My Relay for Life team had a dinner on April 23rd.  Preparing a dinner on the Saturday of Holy Week was more than a little daunting.  It didn't matter that there were dozens of other events during the week at the church.  The event went really well. For dinner we had homemade hamburgers, sausage dogs, potato salad and cole slaw.  We also held a bake sale at the same time.  For our program, we showed our Relay event from last year and shared the reason why we participated in Relay for Life.  For entertainment, the Creek Brothers gave us several selections.  It was a very good night. I can't … [Read more...]

Why I Relay – Tim Zartman

As I stated in Stephanie's 'Why I Relay' post, I won't give away what anyone has to say.  Most of the time, anything I would add would be inadequate compared to the heartfelt statements already expressed.  I will note for the blog readers that Tim and Stephanie are newlyweds at the time of the writing of this post, and anyone who meets the two of them can tell how much they mean to each other. Thanks for doing the podcast on short notice Tim. … [Read more...]

Why I Relay – Stephanie Zartman

Last year, I decided to make a podcast about why I participated in Relay for Life.  This year I decided to get friends and other Relay participants to provide their reasons.  I started with my friends Tim and Stephanie Zartman.  I won't give anything away about their reasons.  I encourage you to listen for yourself.  If you want to support Relay for Life, there is still time.  Tim, Stephanie and I will be out on May 6th and 7th at the Lower Berkeley Relay.  We'd love to have you out there with us, and we'd love any support you can give us to meet our goal to the American Cancer Society this … [Read more...]
