A Real Good Samaritan

Welcome to my Christmas day blog post.  It’s not even 2pm yet, and I’m exhausted.  It’s been a great Christmas though, and it’s helped me realize just how busy I’ve been this year.  For a while now, I wondered if the ‘Living Arguments’ category of my blog would ever get another article.  I found this article late last night while reading the BBC News.  Writer Bernard Hare shares his experience of a Good Samaritan who helps him reach home to see his dying mother.

While reading the article I recognized that most of the actions of the Good Samaritan in this story weren’t extraordinary.  He took steps that were well within the power of  his job to reduce another person’s burden.  The only thing that most would count as extraordinary is that he actually took the time to minister to someone he immediately recognized as suffering.  As people of faith we should all consider this in our everyday lives.  Bernard Hare believes the event helped turn him from “a selfish, potentially violent hedonist into a decent human being”.  How can each of us taking the time to be that Good Samaritan help others through similar changes?

Merry Christmas everyone.
