I've already posted a link to my pictures of Savannah, but a couple took extra effort to make. I've been experimenting with panoramic photography lately, and I used my trip to Savannah to further develop that skill. Savannah
I spent this last weekend in Savannah. Much like Charleston and the rest of the southeast, I found two types of weather in Savannah: blistering heat and rain. Despite it feeling like an oven during most of my stay, I had a great time. Historic Savannah is beautiful to look at and explore, and the city is very easy to navigate on foot or by tour bus. I was lucky to find an overcast morning on Sunday to walk around and take pictures for a few hours. I especially loved the mix of green space with all the historic buildings. As a southerner, I can appreciate the usage of trees to provide … [Read more...]
Jaycees Bachelor Bid Bash
I attended the 3rd Annual Bachelor Bid Bash on August 7th. It was a charity auction to benefit Camp Hope. You can hear a podcast snippet from the event that describes the mission of Camp Hope. … [Read more...]
My 1st panoramic photo
I wanted to try something new with the camera this weekend. That led to the creation of the following photo. Click on the photo to see a larger version. For those of you familiar with Goose Creek, this is the pond behind the municipal building. I panned the camera over 90 degrees to take the pictures that make up this shot. It's amazing what a good camera, and photo stitching software can do. … [Read more...]
1st Sunday
Rev. Debra was back in church this Sunday. She'd been out the last several weeks recovering from surgery on her foot. You could tell she was glad to be back, and the congregation was happy to see her. Thanks to everyone who has been helping fill in while she's been gone. Communion today was done at a table. Debra was at one end with the bread and the cup, and congregation members would come sit at the table. She would pass the bread and cup to the person on her right who would in turn take communion and continue passing the items. It was a nice change of pace for communion, and it … [Read more...]
2010 Family Reunion Photos
After everything that happened after the family reunion, I was hesitant to share these pictures. I haven't really spent any time looking through them. At some point, I'll be able to do so. Family, if and when you are at that point, the pictures are here for you too. You can see all the pictures by clicking on the Smugmug link at the bottom of the post. Photography on the go
I've traveled all over the state of South Carolina. There have been dozens of times that I've seen an odd or interesting building or yard ornament that I've wanted to photograph. I decided to take the time and actually take a few photos this last weekend while driving back from Myrtle Beach. It's a very small gallery (12 pictures) of some of the things that caught my eye. I think many of them are a last remnant of a different time, and we need to preserve their memory. Shattered and waiting to be put back together
My mother's side of the family had their family reunion this last weekend (July 23-25). We have many noticeable patterns for the Montgomery family reunion. We have a picnic on the first night, a banquet on the second night, and a worship service on the last day. This year the planning committee decided to make some pretty big changes. We moved the reunion from Manning, SC to Myrtle Beach. Since no family members lived in Myrtle Beach, we planned our own praise service for Sunday morning. The family asked me to speak. Ok...the planning committee asked my mother to find a speaker, and she … [Read more...]
Moo Cards
I've been hosting my photography on Smugmug for over a year now. For a nominal fee I have unlimited uploads of my photography and lots of partner services including prints and merchandise like mugs and business cards. Smugmug recently added Moo Cards to their list of partner services. Moo offers business cards, greeting cards and post cards. What's nice is they allow you to add your own photography to everything. I used five of my favorite photographs to create fifty business cards for a little over $20. As a partner service with Smugmug, I can log into my Smugmug account and pick which … [Read more...]
Worth a thousand words
If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much is a photobook worth? Last year I shadowed Charleston and Winthrop Wesley Foundation during their fall mission trip. Over the course of the year, I've used those pictures in websites, slide shows and videos to help me describe the importance of campus ministries. The response has been mixed. On websites and social networks, I've gotten a lot of hits. When I've attended conferences I've typically taken a laptop and a flat screen monitor to show the pictures at a booth. After lugging a monitor with me to more than one event, I decided the … [Read more...]
