On October 23rd I had the privilege to deliver the message at the 8:45 and 11:15 services at Goose Creek UMC. The scripture lesson was Matthew 15:10-28. The major point of my message was that we can fail to meet the world's expectations and yet wonderfully succeed at living out God's call in our life. I've attached the message as a podcast if you want to listen. … [Read more...]
Memories of Rural Mission
This last weekend I was the photographer for the Charleston and Winthrop Wesley Foundations on their Fall Mission Trip. It's been a tradition for many years for the two campus ministries to meet in Charleston and conduct a mission trip with UMRC. We were all saddened to see UMRC dissolve this year, but the two campus ministries were determined to go out and serve the community. This year the campus ministers contacted Rural Mission on Johns Island. While it may be the first fall mission trip Charleston and Winthrop have had at Rural Mission, the relationship between United Methodist campus … [Read more...]
Asbury Hills Anniversary
During Labor Day weekend, I attended the 50th anniversary of Asbury Hills United Methodist Camp. I worked at the camp in the summers of 2000 and 2002. It wasn't the best paying summer job I had during college, but it was a memorable experience. During my first summer, I was a resident counselor. Most of my camps were with fourth through sixth graders with the the occasional group of junior high or high school campers. I slept under tarps, ate hobo dinners, played camp games and enjoyed the wonder of the natural world. On the weekends, the staff would eat dinner together on Friday night, and … [Read more...]
Blood Bath & Beyond
I made my first jump into sports photography with the Lowcountry Highrollers. It was a great set of bouts, and the after party was interesting. If you've never seen roller derby, take a look. You can find the link for the full gallery (200+ pictures) at the bottom of this post. Florida Vacation
Alright. It's been a while since the actual vacation, and I've had the photos posted on Smugmug for weeks. I did want to place the blog link though. Clearwater is a wonderful place to vacation even in the heat of the summer. The hotel (Homewood Suites Clearwater) was awesome. They upgraded us for free to a two bedroom suite. That made the stay all that much more luxurious. We visited St. Petersburg (Holocaust Museum, Pier, Sunken Garden), Clearwater Beach and Busch Gardens. I would recommend spending two or three days at Busch Gardens though. Trying to see the entire park and do everything we … [Read more...]
Relay for Life video
The Lower Berkeley Relay for Life had their wrap-up party this last Wednesday. I wasn't able to make it, but I was able to contribute a slideshow consisting of my Relay pictures and audio clips from the event. It's a little bit long (10 minutes), but there are over a dozen audio clips from Relay participants. Thanks to all the awesome people I meet each year when I go out to the event. Goose Creek is blessed to have so many people devoted to the fight against cancer. … [Read more...]
4th of July
I spent a wonderful 4th of July at the Goose Creek Municipal Center listening to music and watching a wonderful fireworks display. There were vendors selling candy and snacks, and the weather was great. Best of all, I had friends who came out to share the day with me. In addition to the standard gallery, I've included a Youtube video. I've slowly started to explore the elusive video function on my camera. It seems that I can actually capture somewhat decent video as long as I have a tripod handy. It was worth it this one time to lug the tripod around with me 4-5 hours. I wouldn't have been … [Read more...]
Charles Towne Landing
These are just some shots from the last weekend of June where I spent some time at Charles Towne Landing. I haven't been there since elementary school. If you plan to go out to the Animal Forest, I will warn you to take bug spray with you. It is a nice place to take a walk and enjoy the outdoors, and they have plenty of spots for a picnic. You can see the full gallery at the smugmug link at the bottom of the post. The Power of Forgiveness
One of the great joys of having a smart phone is access to news anytime I want it. I pulled up the CNN app the other day and found an interesting article about Rev. Kelvin Croom and George Wallace. While I actually enjoy history, I must admit that my American History class in high school was somewhat lacking. We didn't get much past World War II, and it was an AP class. I think I was one of the only people to score high enough to get college credit in the class. As a result knowledge on the later lives of many of the more infamous figures of the Civil Rights movement requires me to take a … [Read more...]
